Social media has really changed over the years, and the advertising aspect has taken over making it impossible to identify the sponsored posts from the viral posts. Initially, this was meant to be a platform to connect people and allow them to interact, but this is no longer the case. Most brands have taken to social networks to post content that is meant to help them make money, without any social aspect of the content.
Back in the days, it was pretty easy to enjoy some posts, which would become viral in a short while. Unfortunately, this has now changed, and only those with the money are able to push their content through sponsored ads. For any brand that wants to convey its message, they must pay money, which is far from what social media should be doing. So was this always the plan? Did the creators of facebook see it as the ultimate money making scheme?
No More Social Media
When you look at the content that is posted on these sites, most of them are marketing posts, which is not what social media was meant to be. Social media has deviated from the vision that was so clear, and everyone flocked there because they believed in the vision. Currently, this is no longer social networking, but more of, broadcasting. If you have not yet come to terms with this reality, you should consider some aspects that have really changed.
For instance, in the past, you would not need to pay a dime to have your content go viral on social networks. However, the story has totally changed, and without money, it is almost impossible to get social media presence. Even in the case of ESCOMAG.info we have a facebook page where we "broadcast" all of our latest posts and interact with those who follow us but if we wanted to reach new members and follower fast then we would need to folk out the $$.
While the concept of social platforms on the instant feedback was great, this has not been rigged. With several hundreds of dollars, you will be able to buy comments, likes, tweets and so much more. As such, it becomes easier to promote your content, as long as you are willing to part with some money.
You will get a huge following and a great audience as long as you keep paying. However, this is not legitimate since it ceases the moment you stop paying. The genuine audience would not depend on money, and this is a clear indication that social media is rigged.
Social Networks Metrics
Most of the marketing strategies have found a way of incorporating social media. The analytics that you will get in regards to the social platforms may not be beneficial to your business. You may have so many followers, but this does not necessarily mean that you have a large number of followers.
With the current trend of social media, it is almost impossible to measure the success of your business. This has become superficial, and a lot of rigging is taking place through the social platforms. When you see any viral posts, you may not really know if this is a genuine post or sponsored advertisement that is paid for.
Hummingbird was first introduced by Google last 2013 which plays a key role in determining the SERP ranking of your site. It is comprised of at least 200 elements that determine a website SERP. The changes implemented by Goggle are targeted on mobile marketing which is an answer of the company to the increasing popularity of smartphone. With the hummingbird update, it is now easier for the system to identify keyword stuffing. It also magnified the importance of the long-tail keywords.
Updates on Google Penguin
Google Panda was founded last 2011, and it acts as the system’s filter. This will prevent the website that contains low-quality content from reaching the top of the search engine result. Google is updating their Google every now and then. Whenever Google implemented some changes in Panda, hits of your websites may be greatly affected. The recent changes aim to target multiple pages that contain the same keyword and outbound links that contain keyword, eliminate auto-generated contents and favour the new contents.

This is one of the most recent additions to the algorithm of Google. It was only introduced last 2015 which aim to prioritise websites that are mobile friendly. Before it was even implemented, different people are alluding to it as Mobocalypse/Mopocalypse and Mobilegeddon. The latest update provides the testing tool with an API access. Google is also starting with their mobile indexing which will only show the result exclusively for the mobile content.
Search Engine site has also implemented different changes on Payday, Pirate, and EMD. There are also minor changes in the Page Rank and Top Heavy. If you want to be updated on the latest changes implemented by the Google algorithm, there are various sites that will help you such as the Search Engine Journal and Search engine Land. Being aware of this latest update will help you to implement changes into your website in order to avoid penalty which will affect your visibility.

For anyone who may be unfamiliar with zombies here is an except from Wikipedia

A zombie (Haitian French: zombi, Haitian Creole: zonbi) is a fictional undead being created through the reanimation of a human corpse. Zombies are most commonly found in horror and fantasy genre works. The term comes from Haitian folklore, where a zombie is a dead body reanimated through various methods, most commonly magic. Modern depictions of zombies do not necessarily involve magic but often invoke science fictional methods such as carriers, radiation, mental diseases, vectors, viruses, scientific accidents, etc.
The English word "zombie" is first recorded in 1819, in a history of Brazil by the poet Robert Southey, in the form of "zombi". The Oxford English Dictionary gives the origin of the word as West African, and compares it to the Kongo words nzambi (god) and zumbi (fetish).

In the last year, Google has started using the GPS based SEO to market their business. Google is now using the GPS settings on our mobile devices to detect where we are and what businesses are nearby. Because of this, we have seen Google starting to move away from prioritising desktops to prioritising mobile devices, which has created many changes to how SEO works.
Why the Change to Prioritising Mobile Devices?
The change to GPS-based results does not only make sense from a mobile perspective, but it also makes sense for desktop searches. The amount of websites that are listed with Google is in the millions, which makes it hard to rank every result correctly.
Location based result algorithms allows Google to use a computer’s IP address to better match the search results. This is why similar results now appear, no matter if you are searching with or without your city or town name. However, this can make it harder to find information about businesses and services in other areas.
How To Use GPS-Based SEO to Market a Business?
Google has also started to offer Geo-Aware Ads. These ads are based on the real-time location of the mobile user. They can also adjust the ads based on events, local conditions, and weather to market your business to the correct customers. Mobile ads are harder to block because there are not as many programs available. Also, most people doing mobile searches are looking for information quickly.
Over half of the searches done using Google are done from a mobile device. This is the mainreason why we have seen a huge change in the way that SEO works. Keywords are becoming less important as GPS systems are being used by Google to create results. We are most likely going to see more changes to the result algorithms and how they work to make mobile searches better. Desktop searches are also benefiting from these changes because more local results are being shown.
Out of time?
A lot of us do not have the time in the day to get everything done, especially when it comes to our social media accounts. So what can we do to make this an easier task that will keep our follower base engaged? Well, this solution is based on a nifty little program called Flipboard! Flipboard is a news/magazine sharing application where you can type in a search word or phrase and it will spit out a bunch of hashtags relating to that topic. Once you are happy with what has been chosen you can simply click create and bobs your uncle you have yourself a "magazine" with your chosen topic and a whole lot of articles that you can read and share! the benefit of this is you can share these articles right to your social media accounts, if you use something like HootSuite then the world is your oyster. Below is a short video I have put together that I call a "micro lesson". This video shows you the bare bones of this application and how easy it is to use the share feature. The app is available for windows, android, and mac
Search engine optimisation is quickly evolving. Many prominent trends will continue growing in 2017. If you want to improve your search engine ranking, you need to keep an eye on these up and coming SEO trends.
User Intent Optimisation
Cross-channel marketing means using various channels to promote your brand in an integrated manner. For instance, you can send targeted ads to customers who browse products on a mobile application but don’t buy. The ads should be based on their searches through social media or email. The main goal of this form of online marketing is to make a constant brand presence across different channels in order for users to move effortlessly between platforms and devices to purchase something. This is only effective, however, if you know your customers and their consumption behaviours. You also need to know the right message, the right time to distribute it and use the right channel.
Mobile Growth and Voice Search
Mobile search is quickly growing and it’s expected to continue in the future. Many websites, in fact, are getting most of their traffic from mobile devices. Mobile optimisation is now very important when it comes to search engine optimisation. Voice search will also become more popular this year. Aside from being hands-free, it is also fast. The rate of error will drop as technology improves with every update. In fact, the error rate of speech recognition has declined from 25% two years ago to only 8% today. This year, the aim for voice search is to develop into voice understanding. Voice search is certainly one of the biggest trends today, so it would be wise to consider incorporating it in your marketing strategy this year.
Syndication improves the credibility of the website you are syndicating content to and transfers the link juice over to your site as well. It is also a great way to become more visible. Syndication will help you get some of the best content. Your content will also have a higher ranking as it receives more link juice.
Progressive Web Apps
PWA or Progressive Web Apps will also be one of the biggest SEO trends this year. Google has already begun promoting it through its developer website and webmaster blog. Users are also casually recommending it in private chats and conferences. Progressive Web Apps work with HTTPS as well. If you have an eCommerce site, reconsidering the possibility of continuously maintaining two apps or don’t have an app due to the need to downsize costs, PWAs will definitely help you as they allow websites to work like an app, even offline.
2017 will be a big year for SEO. People are becoming more engaged and connected with the content they read or consume. Taking these upcoming trends into consideration can help you prepare for future challenges.
